Once-in-a-lifetime prize to be won as public invited to 'Travel the world in 80 days with Cathay Pacific'

(Vancouver, B.C.) --- Cathay Pacific Airways today launched a unique competition through its Facebook page that offers a very special prize: a once-in-a-lifetime chance to travel the world on the Cathay Pacific network.

All it takes to get started in the “Travel the World in 80 Days with Cathay Pacific” competition is to click “Like” on the airline’s fan page on Facebook. Those who wish to enter should submit a short video, photo or story through the Facebook page explaining how they would spend 80 days travelling around the world.

Entries can be submitted from 24 January through to 6 March 2011 (Hong Kong Time) and all the materials submitted will be displayed on the Facebook page. The competition is open to people aged 18 and over who is resident in one of the following countries/territories: Canada (excluding Quebec), Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

After viewing all the entries, the airline will shortlist a total of eight entrants and invite them to the airline’s headquarters of Hong Kong – covering their airfares and accommodation - for a final panel interview and a one-day challenge from 12 to 14 April 2011. The challenge will involve the finalists touring Hong Kong for a day and using their initiative and creativity to post Twitter “tweets” and upload photos that capture the essence of the city’s attractions.

The overall winner will receive a truly special prize: unlimited round-trip Economy Class tickets from Vancouver or Toronto to Hong Kong and onward to any destination of their choice on the network of Cathay Pacific and sister airline Dragonair for 80 days between 1 June and 31 August 2011. Also included is three nights’ hotel accommodation in each destination, a daily allowance of up to HK$2,800 per trip (approximately CA$357) and global travel insurance. In return, the winner will be asked to submit a daily report on his or her travel experiences, including photos and videos, for posting on the Cathay Pacific Facebook fan page.
