Discovering the Greater Bay Area— Asia’s best-kept secret
Cathay Pacific’s new campaign in South East Asia shines a spotlight on the hidden gems of Hong Kong and unexplored wonders of the rest of the Greater Bay Area.
Cathay Pacific has unveiled a new social-driven travel campaign, '#SeenHereFirst', encouraging travellers from South East Asia (SEA) to explore lesser-known sites in Hong Kong and rest of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) in Macao and the Chinese Mainland. The Greater Bay Area is a captivating treasure connecting Hong Kong, Macao, and nine cities in southern China’s Guangdong Province1, offering a wealth of unique experiences waiting to be discovered.
“Travellers from our region are always keen to seek out fresh ideas for a quick getaway, and many are increasingly looking to social media for travel inspiration and planning,” said Jonathan Ng, Cathay Pacific’s SEA Regional Head of Customer Travel and Lifestyle. “We are excited to introduce them to one of Asia’s best-kept secrets, the Greater Bay Area, showing how a trip to Hong Kong can easily turn into an exciting multi-city adventure, with fast and convenient options to travel to other cities in the rest of the GBA.”
While Hong Kong is a familiar destination, an estimated 59% of South East Asian travellers2 have not heard of the Greater Bay Area. Cathay Pacific saw an opportunity to enrich the experiences of travellers by showcasing Hong Kong in a new light, both as a travel destination and a launchpad to the Greater Bay Area.
From Hong Kong International Airport, all major destinations in the Greater Bay Area are within easy reach. Cathay Pacific offers convenient and seamless connections via high-speed ferry codeshare transfers, with customers’ bags checked through to their final destination. Customers may also opt for land transfers via a frequent schedule of coaches and limousines.
Developed in partnership with advertising agency Leo Burnett Singapore, the social-led #SeenHereFirst campaign showcases the best of the Greater Bay Area through the lens of three popular content creators over a month-long travel series contest. The three hosts are Twitch streamer Denise Teo (@supercatkei), former MTV video jockey Utt Panichkul (@whatheutt), and podcast host Maggy Wang (@themaggywang). The twist? Watch each of them try experiences out of their comfort zones in Hong Kong and other cities in the Greater Bay Area across their social media platforms.
Participants are invited to guess the destinations visited by these creators and share their own reasons for wanting to explore the Greater Bay Area. Winners will have the chance to win 25,000 Asia Miles, redeemable for a return Economy class flight with Cathay Pacific from South East Asia to Hong Kong, setting the stage for their own Greater Bay Area adventure.
Contest dates:
1. Denise Teo (@supercatkei): 22 August 2024 - 2 September 2024
2. Utt Panichkul (@whatheutt): 31 August 2024 - 11 September 2024
3. Maggy Wang (@themaggywang): 09 September 2024 - 21 September 2024
