Cathay Pacific tops “The Asian Wall Street Journal 200” survey

Cathay Pacific Airways was today named Hong Kong’s leading company by the Asian Wall Street Journal in its annual “The Asian Wall Street Journal 200” survey that gauges product quality and service as well as outstanding business leadership.

According to the Journal, Cathay Pacific’s “bumper growth in passenger and cargo traffic” helped it to the number-one slot in the Hong Kong section of the Asia-wide poll. Cathay Pacific was ranked second in the poll last year.

For the 12th year of the survey (formerly named “Review 200” and published in the Far Eastern Economic Review) a total of 3,228 executives and professionals were surveyed. They were asked to rate companies according to five attributes: company reputation, quality of products and services, management’s long-term vision, innovation in responding to customer needs and financial soundness.

Most of the respondents in the survey were senior managers and were drawn from the readership of the Far Eastern Economic Review, Caijing magazine in China, Chinese subscribers to the Wall Street Journal website and readers of the Asian Wall Street Journal.

Cathay Pacific plans significant expansion in 2005. Tomorrow, Tuesday 22 February, the airline puts a new Boeing 747-400 Freighter, the 88th aircraft to join its operational fleet, into service. The airline has eight new passenger aircraft on order and also committed to acquire eight used Boeing 747-400 aircraft for reconfiguration as Cathay Pacific passenger and freighter aircraft.

A new Shanghai freighter service was recently launched and on 28 February Cathay Pacific begins thrice-weekly flights to Xiamen.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Philip Chen said: “Cathay Pacific’s commitment to grow passenger and cargo traffic highlighted in the ‘The Asian Wall Street Journal 200’ survey reflects our ongoing effort to reinforce Hong Kong’s hub position in Asia and the world. Our continuous investment in Hong Kong will see the addition of even more aircraft and services this year. Gaining recognition as Hong Kong’s top company is testimony to the hard work of all of our staff and I would like to thank them for a great team effort.”
