Cathay Pacific Takes Its 'Best Chinese Food In The Air' Into The Home With Launch Of New Recipe Book

Cathay Pacific Airways today launched its first-ever cookbook, bringing some of the best dishes from its inflight Chinese food menus into domestic kitchens. The book, "A Taste of Home – Cathay Pacific Best Chinese Food in the Air", features 40 delicious recipes provided by the internationally renowned Hong Kong restaurants taking part in the airline's current "Best Chinese Food in the Air" promotion. The book features easy-to-follow recipes for 40 of the 100-plus Chinese dishes being served to Cathay Pacific passengers throughout 2006 as part of "Best Chinese Food in the Air". Stunning pictures accompany the recipes for each dish and the book also features ingredient tips, chef insights, the story of Cathay Pacific’s catering development over the past six decades and many other food-related titbits.

"A Taste of Home" was officially launched at a press conference today hosted by Cathay Pacific Director Service Delivery Quince Chong. Also present were some of the renowned food critics who have endorsed the recipe book, along with members of Cathay Pacific’s cabin crew who were on hand to conduct a cooking demonstration.

Speaking at the event, Quince Chong said: "We are delighted to launch this recipe book in Cathay Pacific's 60th Anniversary year. When we started operations back in 1946, inflight catering was very basic. Over the years our catering operation has developed to meet the changing tastes and expectations of our passengers and, as Hong Kong's airline, we are now proud to be presenting dishes from the city’s top Chinese restaurants on board our flights."

"I'd like to thank all our partners in the promotion and in particular the talented chefs who were willing to share their secret recipes with readers. Now everyone can enjoy Cathay Pacific’s inflight menu not just at 30,000 feet in the air, but also in the comfort of their own homes!"

Cathay Pacific launched "Best Chinese Food in the Air" in 2000 to highlight the culinary excellence of its home city. Initially the promotion was run in conjunction with just one partner restaurant, but was extended to include a number of Hong Kong's leading restaurants in 2006 to mark the airline’s 60th Anniversary. Cathay Pacific Catering Services (CPCS) runs one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated inflight kitchens, serving an average of 57,000 meals a day from its complex at Hong Kong International Airport.
