The average proceeds of one month, or HK$670,000, will be donated to the Cathay Pacific Wheelchair Bank to support Hong Kong children suffering from neuromuscular disease. The Wheelchair Bank was set up in 1996 to supply these children with specially adapted wheelchairs to improve their quality of life.
Speaking at today's presentation ceremony, Cathay Pacific's General Manager Corporate Communication Alan Wong said: "As a Hong Kong-based carrier, Cathay Pacific is strongly committed to serving our local community. We are pleased to work with UNICEF again on this meaningful project and to contribute to the Wheelchair Bank."
At the ceremony, Mr Wong handed over the cheque for HK$4.4 million to the Chairman of the Advocacy and Public Relations Sub-Committee of the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF Dicky Yip, and local celebrity Michelle Reis.
Cathay Pacific has been working closely with UNICEF for over a decade. Last year the airline and other members of the oneworld global airline alliance announced a major initiative with UNICEF to raise funds for children around the world. The "oneworld Alliance for UNICEF" will see seven airlines supporting UNICEF through the Change for Good programme and other fundraising efforts.
