Cathay Pacific launches only direct nonstop passenger flight service between Texas and Hong Kong

Starting April 24, Cathay Pacific will operate four-times-weekly nonstop flights between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Hong Kong International Airport, a first for the international airline

Thursday, April 24, 2025 [Hong Kong] – Today, Cathay Pacific launched its first nonstop passenger flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) with four-times-weekly service. The airline’s introduction into the southern region of the United States is the only nonstop flight available between Texas and Hong Kong, marking Cathay Pacific’s sixth passenger destination in the U.S. and eighth in North America. The launch of flights from DFW brings the Cathay Group, including Cathay Pacific and low-cost carrier HK Express, one step closer to exceeding 100 passenger destinations within 2025.

Cathay Pacific was established in 1946 by co-founder Roy C. Farrell, a native Texan and former U.S. Air Force Pilot. Driven by a passion for aviation and a vision to connect the world, Farrell saw an opportunity to transport essential goods from Australia to China. This progressive thinking and determination laid the foundation for what would become Cathay Pacific.

Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau said: “From Cathay Pacific’s humble beginnings with a single plane to a world-leading airline group, we are proud of our visionary founders and the airline’s direct connection to Texas. The launch of our first nonstop return route between Hong Kong and Dallas Forth Worth is a symbolic homecoming and testament to the initial vision of Cathay Pacific Co-Founders Roy C. Farrell and Sydney de Kanzow, connecting the world and its people almost 80 years after the brand was born.”

DFW Chief Executive Officer Sean Donohue said: “DFW’s growth in passenger service also creates new ways of connecting people, cultures, and economies. We are excited to welcome Cathay Pacific and open a new nonstop gateway between Hong Kong and North Texas, enhancing global access and deepening the ties that drive innovation and commerce.”

This summer, Cathay Pacific will operate more than 110 return passenger flights per week to destinations in North America, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver. The airline’s four-times-weekly flights between Hong Kong and DFW will be operated using its modern Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. Flights are open for booking with the following flight schedule:

Roy Farrell Jr., son of Cathay Pacific Founder Roy C. Farrell and a fellow Texas native, commented on the milestone moment: “My father was fearless, dreamed ‘Texas big’ and would let no obstacle stand in his way. His ultimate vision was to create an international airline that flies throughout Asia and to the U.S., which is clearly demonstrated in its namesake, Cathay Pacific.

“It is poetic that dad’s vision for an airline has become one of the most premier service brands in the world,” continued Farrell Jr. “This final step of bringing Cathay Pacific home to Texas would surely make my father proud. Following the sale of the airline to what is now Swire Pacific Limited in 1948, my dad always remarked, ‘They’ve done a fine job raising my baby.’ His vision of creating a premier international airline has been fulfilled.”

With this exciting launch, Cathay Pacific continues to build Hong Kong as a leading international aviation hub that connects people to the most exciting places in the world. With codeshares and other flight options, customers can connect to domestic destinations in the U.S., as well as destinations in Central and South America via DFW.

Cathay Pacific is also increasing frequencies on its North America passenger services this summer. Aside from the new DFW service, this will include three return flights per day to New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and a daily return flight to both Boston and Chicago. Cathay Pacific also continues to increase flights on its services to Canada, with 17 weekly return flights to Vancouver and 18 weekly return flights to Toronto.

Cathay Pacific’s new passenger service to DFW will complement Cathay Cargo’s existing freighter services to the airport via Anchorage. To cater to the growing demand during the air cargo peak season, Cathay Cargo is operating five additional return freighter flights per week to North America starting this month. Cathay Cargo will be operating close to 40 return freighter flights per week to North America this summer.
