Cathay Pacific joins with Qantas to launch code-share to Rome
Cathay Pacific Airways and its oneworld alliance partner Qantas Airways today announced the introduction of a new code-share arrangement that will give customers smoother connections when travelling between Australia and Rome.
The code-share, subject to government approval, is a unilateral arrangement under which Qantas will put its "QF" code on Cathay Pacific flights to and from the Italian capital. The commencement date is scheduled for 9 September 2003.
Cathay Pacific has four return flights to Rome each week, operating out of Hong Kong on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Qantas customers can fly to Hong Kong from the airline's Australian destinations and then connect with Cathay Pacific flights to Rome.
Announcing details of the code-share, Cathay Pacific Director Corporate Development Tony Tyler said: "We are very pleased to be able to introduce this unilateral code-share arrangement for the benefit of customers. This is our first code-share with our Australian oneworld partner and we will continue to explore other avenues to strengthen our co-operation."
Cathay Pacific and Qantas are both members of oneworld, the leading global airline alliance, together with Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, and LanChile. As part of a range of oneworld benefits, passengers on alliance carriers can already earn and redeem frequent flyer rewards across each other's networks, and gain access to more partner airline lounges.
