Cathay Pacific is Accepting Applications for Canada's Second

Greater Vancouver Area Grade 12 students offered a unique look into the aviation industry

(Vancouver, B.C.) - Cathay Pacific has opened applications for its second Canada “I Can Fly” program, inviting young Canadians with a passion for aviation to participate in the popular program. Grade 12 high school students from the Greater Vancouver area may submit an application online at www.cathaypacific.ca/icanfly on or before 02 March 2010.

The second “I Can Fly” Canada program will run from April through May and offers high school students a rare behind-the-scenes look at the airline industry. Staffed by Cathay Pacific staff volunteers, the 8-week academy covers a range of aviation topics and explores various careers in the industry from engineering to in-flight catering to passenger sales. The program runs weekly and operates after school hours out of Vancouver International Airport or within the vicinity of downtown Vancouver.

“The inaugural “I Can Fly” program was truly a successful and meaningful experience for both the students and our staff instructors,” said Alex Shum, Vice President Canada, Cathay Pacific. “We’re pleased to offer another group of young Canadians the opportunity to learn about the aviation industry and assist them in making future career choices.”

The “I Can Fly” program was launched in 2003 in Hong Kong and due to its success was brought to Canada for the first time in October 2009. Sean Samuel, a participant in the first Canadian program last October, will soon be graduating from Riverside Secondary School and found the program helped re-confirm his career path.

“I really appreciated the opportunity to gain this first-hand knowledge before beginning the next phase of my education,” said Samuel.
