Cathay Pacific invites Hong Kong public to show how aviation connects their world
The contest is open for submissions now, and Cathay Pacific invites all Hong Kong residents aged 16 and above to take part and have the chance to win two of the 1,800 free round-trip Economy Class tickets being offered as prizes.
Over the past 65 years, Cathay Pacific has played an integral part in the growth of the local aviation industry, and as the city’s home carrier the airline is committed to securing Hong Kong’s position as an international aviation hub and prime tourist and business destination. Cathay Pacific has worked tirelessly to promote aviation to the Hong Kong public and through the “Connecting Your World” contest invites people to share their thoughts on how air transport provides a world of opportunities, connects people and cultures, or adds colours to our daily lives.
Those interested in taking part can find out more about the contest and submit their entries at www.cathaypacific.com/connectingyourworld. Submissions can be in the form of words, photos, illustrations or video clips and each participant can submit up to five entries. The deadline for submission is 7 June 2011.
A panel of judges will be formed for each of the 18 districts in Hong Kong, consisting of a creative professional, district council and office representatives and a Cathay Pacific representative. The panels will select the best 50 entries from each district and also choose the best entry from among the top 50.
The champion in each district will win two Economy Class round-trip tickets to any destination served by Cathay Pacific or Dragonair. The other 49 winners will each get a pair of Economy Class round-trip tickets to any of the Cathay Pacific or Dragonair regional destination.
This “Connecting Your World” contest is being organised with the support of the Home Affairs Department, as part of its “Get into Discovery” campaign.
Belgian aviation pioneer Charles Van den Born made the first powered flight in Hong Kong on 18 March 1911 in a Farman bi-plane. One hundred years later, Hong Kong has become one of the world’s great international aviation hubs, ranking first in the world for cargo throughput and third in terms of international passenger traffic in 2010.
