Cathay Pacific expects one million entries to 'The World's Biggest Welcome' lucky draw
Cathay Pacific today expects to pass the one million entries milestone in the final day of 'The World's Biggest Welcome' campaign. A surge of entries was seen as Hong Kong people scrambled to be in today's draw for the first 40 winners of tickets for North America. Entry form collection boxes close at midnight tonight.
Leaders of Hong Kong's tourism industry got behind Cathay Pacific's campaign to boost Hong Kong's tourism industry.
Ronnie Yuen, Chairman, Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, speaking at today's draw in Times Square, said: "Cathay Pacific's 'The World's Biggest Welcome' campaign has demonstrated how a little thought and imagination can create a lot of good for Hong Kong tourism and Hong Kong's economy as a whole. The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong has no doubt that it will give a tremendous boost to Hong Kong's image overseas as well."
James Lu, Executive Director, Hong Kong Hotels Association, said: "The Hong Kong Hotels Association believes that Cathay Pacific's 'The World's Biggest Welcome' has galvanised the whole tourism industry here into coming up with ways to show the world that Hong Kong is a truly amazing tourist destination. Our 79 member hotels will extend their very best service and offer special rates to all the lucky winners."
Michael Li, Executive Director, The Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, said: "Cathay Pacific deserves warm congratulations for coming up with such a bold and creative promotion. The Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners believes the 'The World's Biggest Welcome' has given an incredible kick-start to Hong Kong's tourism industry. Cathay has set an example we can all follow."
Edmund Tsang, Chairman, Pacific Asia Travel Association Hong Kong Chapter, said: "We offer Cathay Pacific its fullest support and warmly congratulates the airline on it generosity in giving away 10,000 tickets. It will help showcase Hong Kong as one of the most exciting destinations in the world."
The airline expects that a last-minute rush to enter 'The World's Biggest Welcome' lucky draw will tip the total number of entries above one million. More than 212,000 entries were collected on Friday - the biggest number collected so far in one day - raising the total at that point to close to 700,000.
Today, 40 initial winners were picked from a mountain of 329,000 entries from people who nominated friends in North America to receive one of the 10,000 tickets that Cathay Pacific is giving away to boost tourism in Hong Kong.
Today's was the last initial draw. All 100 winners from this week's initial draws will receive two additional air tickets for their own travel and will automatically qualify for the special Grand Draw on 5 February. All winners will be notified individually.
Each day's draw follows a theme designed to highlight different aspects of Hong Kong as a world class tourist destination. Today's theme was Hong Kong's tourism leaders.
Among the others present at the draw were local celebrity Miriam Yeung, Cathay Pacific Director and Chief Operating Officer Mr Philip Chen, and District Council Chairman Ng Sze-fuk, and Vice-Chairmen Mr Wu Kwok-cheung, Mr Cheung Fo-tai, Mr Wong King-cheung and Mr Pang Cheung-wai.
Entry form drop-off points are located at six MTR stations - Central, Admiralty, Causeway Bay, Kowloon Tong, Mongkok and Tsim Sha Tsui, and at the departure level of the Hong Kong International Airport.
