Cathay Pacific Continues Celebrating 20 Years of Nonstop Service to USA With Good News for LA Charities

In honor of its anniversary, carrier will provide a gift worth US$20,000 to one organization

LOS ANGELES (May 11, 2010) - Usually someone celebrating a milestone gets the presents. But in honor of its 20th anniversary of nonstop service from the United States to Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific Airways will actually be giving away a gift to a single charity in the greater Los Angeles area, where the first nonstop service began on July 1, 1990.

The special gift includes …

• A Volunteer of the Year Award Package comprised of two, round-trip, economy class tickets from Los Angeles to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific, three night's accommodation in Hong Kong and a city tour of Asia's most vibrant city.

• 200,000 Asia Miles from Asia's leading travel reward program, offering redemption opportunities for travel and lifestyle rewards around the globe.

• Business Class Dinner for 20, featuring Cathay Pacific's award-winning premium class cuisine served by members of the airline's cabin crew.

• $2,000 Cash Donation.

"What better way to celebrate than to help a worthy organization make people's lives better in the communities we serve?" asked Dennis Owen, Cathay Pacific Airways' vice president of marketing in the Americas. "We are very thankful for 20 years of loyal support from the greater Los Angeles area and we're pleased to be able to give something back as we mark this important milestone."

Any 501(c)(3) certified charity in the California counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura are eligible to compete for the gift. All that is required is the completion of a registration form, providing copies of the organization's 501(c)(3) certification and a "compelling and creative" submission on why the organization should receive the gift.

"We'll have a three-judge panel look at all the submissions and determine which one organization will be the recipient of our anniversary gift," Owen said. "Every organization does great work so the selection process will be based on the submission … 50% on how compelling it is and 50% on how creative it is. A video? A song? A slideshow to music? It's up to the organizations to decide how they will produce the winning submission."

Cathay Pacific's Los Angeles-based cabin crew will be traveling around the greater Los Angeles area on May 11th, 12th and 13th to drop off registration packets to various charities. Since it will not be possible for them to visit every charity in the five-county region, registration forms and more details, including a complete set of rules, terms and conditions, are available by emailing [email protected]. Only emailed requests can be fulfilled. Deadline for the submissions is June 11, 2010.
