Cathay Pacific Celebrates 30 Years Of Flying To Canada

(Vancouver, B.C.) –On May 1, 2013, Cathay Pacific marks 30 years of non-stop service between Vancouver and Hong Kong. 30 years ago, with the launch of two non-stop flights weekly, Vancouver became the airline’s first destination in Canada (and North America). Flying a Boeing 747-200, Cathay Pacific pioneered a new trend in commercial aviation being the first airline to fly the route non-stop.

Since that time, Cathay Pacific has increased its Vancouver to Hong Kong flights from two a week to two a day, including the addition of a dedicated Cargo freighter service.

The Vancouver/Hong Kong route has played a pivotal role in Cathay Pacific’s history and success. In 1992, it was the airline’s first route to institute non-smoking flights and, in 1997, the first Cabin Crew Base, outside of its’ headquarters in Hong Kong, opened in Vancouver.

After 30 Years and countless industry awards, Cathay Pacific now flies twice daily non-stop between Vancouver and Hong Kong, daily non-stop between Vancouver and New York and 10 non-stop flights weekly between Toronto and Hong Kong. All flights are flown by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft equipped with First Class* (*select Vancouver flights only), Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class cabins configured to provide more personal space for passengers, all of whom receive Cathay Pacific’s award-winning Service Straight from the Heart.

In celebration of 30 Years in Canada, Cathay Pacific is now inviting fans to share their personal memories, or images, of the airline on its’ Canada Facebook page. Eligible entries will get a chance to win tickets to Hong Kong. For more information, please visit: www.facebook.com/cathaypacificCA.
