The airlines appeal to passengers to postpone or cancel non-essential travel as additional flight cancellations, diversions and/or delays are anticipated tomorrow afternoon and possibly Wednesday as well due to the backlog of passengers and busy air traffic.
Cathay Pacific spokesman said: “We sincerely apologise to our customers for the suspension of flights brought about by the typhoon. Safety has always been our top priority. Our staff are trying very hard to provide alternative flight arrangements for affected passengers; however, there are significant challenges as many flights are operating at high load factors during this peak summer travel period.
“We will continue to try our best to get the affected passengers to their destinations as quickly as circumstances permit and appreciate the patience of our customers.”
Passengers who are booked on flights departing tonight or tomorrow are encouraged to postpone non-essential travel. The airlines will waive fees on re-booking, re-routing and cancellation and refund for all tickets issued worldwide (irrespective of fare type) on or before 1 August for travel on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair involving Hong Kong between 1 August and 3 August.
Passengers without confirmed bookings are advised not to go to the airport. We will assist with alternative arrangements for affected passengers.
Passengers are reminded that the situation can change rapidly and are advised to check the latest flight information on the airline’s website, www.cathaypacific.com or www.dragonair.com, before departing for the airport.
The airlines will continue to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates should there be any changes to the flight schedule.
