Statement from Cathay Pacific Airways

Cathay Pacific Airways is fully committed to the process of negotiation with the Flight Attendants Union (FAU). These are important discussions and our goal is to reach an agreement that respects the interest of all parties concerned – the members of our cabin crew, other Cathay Pacific employees, and most importantly, our valued customers in Hong Kong and around the world.

We are fully aware that our employees are our most valuable asset and that they play a critical role in ensuring that Cathay Pacific’s excellent record for safety and service is never compromised. That is why we have entered into these discussions in good faith and that is why we will continue to work with the union to achieve an outcome that works for all parties concerned.

All parties are well aware that any industrial action would be contrary to the interests of the travelling public, to the interests of the people and economy of Hong Kong, and to the interests of the company and its employees. We are doing our part to bridge the differences.

There has been a great deal of misinformation communicated regarding the issues being negotiated between our airline and the FAU and we won’t go into each and every one of them. However, we will say that we have great respect for our people and we will continue to offer a competitive compensation package and benefits and a working environment that will enable us to continue to attract and retain our industry-leading workforce.

We thank the Labour Department for arranging today’s meeting and for the support it is providing.

We are hopeful that a conclusion can be reached soon and we want to assure everyone that we will continue to engage in these discussions in a meaningful and constructive manner that will help us achieve an agreement that works for the FAU, for Cathay Pacific, and for Hong Kong.
