Cathay Pacific showcases month-long Oscars selection onboard

Friday 21 February 2014 — Cathay Pacific is bringing the 2014 Oscar® season onboard throughout March by featuring a selection of films nominated this year, along with past winners. 

This year’s selection of 39 Oscar-related titles is the largest ever line-up to be shown on the airline’s StudioCX entertainment system*. Some of the new releases, such as survival film “All Is Lost”, documentary “20 Feet from Stardom” and comedy-drama films “Inside Llewyn Davis” and “Nebraska”, are available on StudioCX even before they are screened in Hong Kong cinemas.

The special movie selection includes 15 Academy Awards nominees of 2014, 24 past Best Picture winners and winners of other categories in previous years.  They are offered in addition to the usual collection of 100-plus movies, 500-plus television programmes and 888 CDs that passengers can enjoy onboard Cathay Pacific flights.  A preview of these Oscars specials is available from a newly released trailer at the company’s website – www.cathaypacific.com from 1 March 2014.

As the awards season excitement builds, passengers are invited to join the fun by predicting this year’s winners via a special Oscars® online competition in the digital version of Discovery, Cathay Pacific’s inflight magazine.  The competition will run between 21 February 2014 and 17:00 (HKT) on 2 March 2014, covering the following main categories:

·         Best Picture

·         Best Director

·         Best Actor in a Leading Role

·         Best Actress in a Leading Role

·         Best Actor in a Supporting Role

·         Best Actress in a Supporting Role

·         Best Animated Feature Film

The airline will give away more than 100 copies of this year’s nominated titles and past winners on Blu-ray. Details of the online competition are available at the Discovery website, cathaypacific.com/discovery.
