Cathay Pacific confirms special fare from Tokyo to Hong Kong

In response to media enquiries, Cathay Pacific Airways states that a special one-way fare of HK$5,755 from Tokyo to Hong Kong has been in place for those without confirmed bookings but who would like to return to Hong Kong.

This special fare arrangement, introduced Saturday (12 March) afternoon, will be available for sale until 20 March and is designed to help those without any confirmed bookings who want to fly back to Hong Kong as soon as possible. For bookings please contact local Cathay Pacific offices or refer to www.cathaypacific.com.

A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said: “This special fare arrangement has been communicated to our staff at both Narita International Airport and Haneda Airport in Tokyo. Our priority is to help bring people back to Hong Kong. As soon as the airports in Tokyo resumed operation on Saturday, we have been doing everything possible to resume flights services and to introduce this special fare to help people return to Hong Kong as soon as possible.

“As is usual industry practice, published fares are quoted for passengers who turn up at our airport counters to buy tickets on the spot. For Cathay Pacific, the published fare from Tokyo to Hong Kong is about HK$15,000.

“We understand that individual passengers may have bought tickets at the full published fare from our airport counters from 12 March 2011, and we will refund to them the fare difference between the full published fare and this special repatriation fare. They should contact our reservations staff in Hong Kong on +852 2747-1888.

This special fare arrangement only applies to passengers travelling from Tokyo without confirmed bookings. There will be no refund for any fare difference for passengers who have already purchased tickets on or before 11 March, or are travelling from Japanese cities other than Tokyo.

All rebooking and rerouting charges will also be waived for tickets issued worldwide on or before 11 March for travel on Cathay Pacific involving Narita and Haneda in Tokyo between 11 March and 15 April 2011. Revised travel date must be on or before 31 May 2011. The waiver is for all confirmed bookings irrespective of fare type.

Cathay Pacific is now operating according to its normal schedule to Tokyo, with four non-stop flights to Narita, one flight via Taipei to Narita and two flights to Haneda. However, passengers should note that there may still be disruptions to public transportation facilities to and from both Tokyo airports.

“We will closely monitor the situation and deploy our resources to meet the needs of passengers to and from Tokyo,” the spokesman added.
