Cathay Pacific appoints Group General Counsel

Paul Chow will assume the position from July 2019

Cathay Pacific is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Chow to the position of Group General Counsel effective 01 July 2019.

Mr. Chow is a partner of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, one of the most prestigious international law firms in the world. Consistently recognized as a leading corporate lawyer in Hong Kong, he advises some of the largest and most significant companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, PRC state-owned and private enterprises, international financial intermediaries and multinational corporates on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, corporate governance and regulatory issues.

As part of the Cathay Pacific Group’s effort to develop and maintain world-class corporate governance, Mr. Chow will advise and support the Board and Chief Executive Officer as risk owner for all legal, regulatory and strategic risks across the Group in this newly created senior role. This includes supervising development and operation of the Group’s corporate governance framework, maintaining oversight of all legal, compliance and regulatory activities of the Group including litigation and dispute resolution, supporting and advising businesses in their compliance with current and prospective legislation and regulations, managing the Group’s legal and compliance teams and key external legal and regulatory relationships. Mr. Chow will be a member of the Management Committee of the Group.

The Cathay Pacific Group has already achieved a pre-eminent position in safety risk management, but as threats from other areas such as strategic and regulatory risks are increasing, the Group is determined to further strengthen its identification and management of these and other risks, to provide greater support for the operation and to increase transparency and accountability in our business.
